Brenda Russell

Grammy and Tony nominated artist, singer, composer, Brenda Russell is known for her eclectic musical style. Her recordings have encompassed several different genres, including pop, soul, dance, jazz and adult contemporary. As well as composing and recording her own material. Russell's songwriting and vocal talents have been used by Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Joni Mitchell, Donna Summer, Flo Rida and Sting. Brenda is most known for her hit songs Piano in The Dark, Get Here, and So Good So Right. She also compose music for the Broadway hit version of The Color Purple. Her sweetness and unique artistry shows through in her live performances. She will be appearing on stage with saxman and festival host Michel Paulo.


Unfortunately, Due to health reasons, Phil Perry will not be appearing at the festival this year.

 


 


Warren Hill

After touring with pop stars such as Chaka Khan and Natalie Cole, Warren has recorded ten solo projects to date, four of which have made the top ten on the US jazz charts. Warren is undoubtedly one of the most electrifying saxophonist of our generation. His high-energy style and arrangements will leave you in awe. Warren started the whole smooth jazz cruise trend and also is one of the biggest supporters of the Canadian smooth jazz seen. He has also successfully launched his first annual Sax Summit this year giving saxophonist and musicians an international forum to learn more about the sax, jazz and meet some of today's hottest and most well known saxophonists



Patrice Rushen

Grammy Award-winning pianist, singer, composer Patrice Rushen is best know for her biggest hit Forget Me Nots which later became the theme song for the hit motion picture Men in Black. Little known is her work behind the scenes for which Patrice has many ground-breaking achievements. She became the first woman to serve as head composer, musical director for the Grammy Awards and the Emmy Awards, and the first woman to serve as musical director for the NAACP Image Awards' broadcast, an honor she held for twelve consecutive years. Additionally, Rushen has been the only woman to be a musical director/composer for the People's Choice Awards, HBO's Comic Relief and the only woman musical director/conductor/arranger for a late-night television talk show, The Midnight Hour.
In addition, Rushen was named musical director/composer for Newsweek's first American Achievement Awards, broadcast on CBS from the Kennedy Center and she served as the musical director for Janet Jackson's Janet. World Tour. Don’t miss this festival favorite as this will be her 4th appearance at our event. Straight out, this girl can play!

Gregg Karukas
Gregg Karukas

Gregg Karukas is one of the moist sought after smooth jazz pianists and composer today, He experimented with keyboards as a child, but it was not until his teens that he pursued music professionally. Gradually, he developed a melodic and soulful style of music that made him a mainstay on smooth jazz. Karukas strives to write music that evokes strong emotions. His best-known singles, Girl in the Red Dress and Nightshift, reflect a funky, smooth jazzy styling familiar to his fans. With eleven solo albums and many sessions and tours with prominent jazz artists, Gregg Karukas has established himself as one of the leading musicians in Smooth Jazz. Gregg has been all over the airwaves recently, featured on Jessy’s debut #1 single Tequila Moon, and Rick Braun and Richard Elliot’s smash hit RnR. He is also featured on The Rippingtons’ latest, Modern Art and 20th Anniversary, reuniting with Russ Freeman, Dave Koz, David Benoit and many other top name musicians who appeared in the groundbreaking 1986 album Moonlighting. Some of his recent projects include tours with Rick Braun, Peter White, Larry Carlton, LA Chillharmonic, Java Jazz West Coast All-Stars (Jakarta) and The Tribute to the Jazzmasters.




Paul Jackson Jr.

In addition to being a recording artist in his own right, Jackson is also highly accomplished the most sought after L.A. session player, with a career spanning multiple decades. He has supported artists ranging from Michael Jackson (on the albums Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory and Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix) to the Temptations, Whitney Houston, Thomas Anders, Patti LaBelle and Luis Miguel, to rockers such as Chicago and Elton John, to jazz greats such as George Duke, Dave Koz, Al Jarreau, David Benoit, Marcus Miller and Kirk Whalum, and to Christian artists such as Leon Patillo and Don Moen.

Jackson can be seen playing guitar in a wide variety of styles on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and American Idol. Not only is he a great guitarist but he is also a great and humble man. He let’s his guitar do the talking and boy does it say a lot!




Michael Paulo

Festival Producer and Host Michael Paulo is a multi-talented artist with ten solo records to date. His most recent outing features the talented arranging of Pianist David Benoit along with a 40 piece symphony orchestra. With over 3 decades of experience in the music business Michael is not only a talented saxophonist but also is involved with producing the Pacific Rim Jazz festival, The popular Grooves in The Grove series at La Quinta Resort and Spa and numerous Smooth Jazz concerts in Hawaii from where he hails. It's through his numerous relationships that the festival is able to bring in such world class talent. He is also an artist in residence at The world famous Jakarta Internartional Java Jazz Festival. Michael currently resides in the Temecula Valley.

It’s a British invasion with Englishman, soul jazz guitarist Chris Standring known for his heavy use of 1970s-style musical nuances. His recordings "Hipsway" "Groovalicious" "Soul Express" and Love & Paragraphs defined a funky guitar sound unique to Standring. Chris's 2010 album 'Blue Bolero' spawned the hit single "Bossa Blue" which went to No.1 at contemporary radio across the USA and stayed there for nine consecutive weeks. Bossa Blue was named 2010 Billboard contemporary jazz track of the year. Don’t miss his debut performance at this years festival.



Antonio Pontarelli
Antonio Pontarelli

At the Young age of 21, Antonio has already accomplished a lifetime of work. He was concertmaster of the San Diego Youth Symphony from 2003 to 2005, winner of seven violin competitions as well as numerous other national and international music awards, is further known as a singer/songwriter and electric violinist. He has performed for National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences events, music festivals, rock concerts and USA television broadcasts with Grammy award-winning musicians. Pontarelli started composing for national television at 11 and has made 8 national television appearances. In April 2006, he received the most votes in the teen category for the "Peoples Voice Award" of the prestigious International Songwriting Competition and also won the Inland Empire Weekly's annual award for "Best Rook Band". In 2007 Pontarelli won for "Best Performance" in the Unisong International Songwriting Competition, was named "Best Instrumentalist" and "Best Artist" at the "Southern California Music Awards". In April 2008, he was again winner of the International Songwriting Competition's 'People's Voice Award'. Pontarelli has become known as an award-winning musician without boundaries and an artist who gets audiences on their feet with his engaging rock performances. In June 2010, Pontarelli had his Carnegie Hall debut as an electric violin soloist with the World Civic Orchestra bringing his engaging rock sensibility to the famed stage .
